Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore has gotten a first-hand look at what to expect from former five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood.
That's because Underwood has been able to take part in practices for the ReliaQuest Bowl. He joined Michigan football in Tampa as the Wolverines prepare for the game and even though Underwood can't play, he's already generated some buzz.
It's clear he's every bit of 6-foot-5. Underwood doesn't look like a college freshman. He's impressed Michigan football players and coaches with his arm talent and here's what Sherrone Moore said on Monday when asked about his star pupil.
Sherrone Moore talks Bryce Underwood
"Extremely talented. He has great arm strength. He can make all the throws. He can run. He's gonna be an unbelievable player. When that is, I don't know, and we'll figure that out," Moore said via Alejandro Zuniga of 247 Sports.
It's hard to say when Underwood will play but after the addition of Mikey Keene via the transfer portal, it feels like Underwood has a great chance to win the starting job next season. Keene might open the season as the starter and Underwood will have a package sort of like J.J. McCarthy did during the 2021 season, but I don't expect it to stay that way for long.
Underwood is a freak. He's 6-foot-5 and he can run. Mikey Keene is a winner. I think he'll be a great mentor and a great dude to have in the quarterback room, but at some point, Bryce Underwood will be the starting quarterback.
Even if, as Sherrone Moore said, we don't know when that will be.
