Michigan football fans have been waiting for the Wolverines to make some additions via the transfer portal and it looks like at least one could be coming relatively soon -- at the game's most important position.

Even though the Wolverines landed five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood in their 2025 class, they have made it clear they want to add a veteran quarterback. If Underwood is ready and wins the job, so be it. But Michigan football doesn't want to rush Underwood before he's ready.

But they also can't guarantee anyone the starting job and shouldn't. That makes landing a quarterback tricky. Miller Moss was one name mentioned but he seems headed elsewhere.

However, the former Maryland starting quarterback entered the transfer portal on Thursday. He'll be a senior next season and was solid for the Terps in 2024, helping them reaching a bowl game despite one of the worst offensive lines in college football.

Edwards still threw for 269 yards per game as a junior to go along with 15 touchdown passes and nine interceptions. Edwards completed 65 percent of his passes and he can run a little bit too. The former Maryland starter has had at least nine games with 24 rushing yards, plus 13 touchdowns.

There was definite buzz connecting him to Michigan once he entered the portal and now, on Friday, Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakoes of On3.com have projected Edwards to Michigan football.

The 6-foot-3 quarterback has one year of eligibility remaining. He's got proven production in the Big Ten and if you surround him with a better offensive line, better running backs, better receivers, and better coaching, he could have a really solid season.

The Wolverines still have work to do, assuming Edwards does commit -- they need 2-3 O-line starters and 1-2 wide receivers. Michigan had one of the worst offenses in college football and one above average quarterback isn't going to fix that.

But put the right pieces around him and Edwards could be a really good one-year player for the Wolverines as they get ready for the Underwood era to begin in full.
