The 2026 Michigan football season is right around the corner, but Wolverine fans might have something to celebrate before that.
Steve Wiltfong, the most respected college football recruiting analyst in the industry, dropped three new predictions in favor of Michigan football in the 2028 recruiting class.
One of them is for Asa Burch. He's a four-star EDGE out of Ohio who is ranked No. 131 overall via the Rivals Industry Rankings. Burch, a Michigan football legacy, had other projections to land with U-M, but none carry as much weight as Wiltfong's.
Out of Warren, Ohio, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Oregon are some of the other teams that have offered. Burch is 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, and if he does end up committing as Wiltfong predicted on Tuesday, that will be two classes in a row with a blue-chip commitment from Ohio for Kyle Whittingham.
Burch was just one major prediction made in favor of the Wolverines. Another was for Major Stokes. He's an elite EDGE from Orem, Utah.
The 6-foot-5, 237-pounder is ranked even higher at No. 62 overall. He also had a previous projection to Michigan, but now has a 98 percent chance to land with the Wolverines. Michigan has a 96-percent chance to land Burch, via the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Like Burch, Stokes has an impressive offer sheet, which includes Miami, Penn State, BYU, Oregon, USC, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, and others. It's easy to see why they have offered him, and landing both elite EDGE prospects should have Michigan fans over-the-moon excited if it comes to fruition.
Younger brother of Utah first-round pick projected to Michigan
Four-star offensive tackle Mataio Fano, the younger brother of Spencer Fano, who was just drafted ninth overall in the 2026 NFL draft, was also projected to Michigan by Wiltfong. Fano is from Orem, Utah. He's ranked 145th overall in the 2028 class via Rivals Industry Rankings as an offensive tackle.
The Wolverines now have a 98-percent chance to land him, too. The prediction from Wilftong isn't surprising, especially with the work that Jim Harding was able to do with his brother at Utah.
Michigan has just one commitment so far in the 2028 class, from a highly-touted kicker. That could change soon. The timing isn't really that important. All three guys will surely be on campus for games this fall, so at some point, you'd expect these predictions to turn into commitments.
If they do, that will be an ideal start to the 2028 recruiting class.
