Ever since flipping the commitment of Bryce Underwood from LSU, the quarterback recruiting for the 2026 class has been a little up in the air for Michigan football.
The Wolverines have been in the hunt for plenty of highly-touted quarterbacks but Brady Hart, who was the 2026 commitment, flipped and re-classified to Texas A&M.
Michigan football has been connected to other 2026 quarterbacks, a list that includes five-star signal-caller Ryder Lyons. The 16th-ranked overall prospect in the 2026 class, Lyons, is planning a Mormon mission after high school and is a 2026 recruit in name only.
That could leave the door open for two 2026 quarterbacks. But a new name that has emerged as a potential Michigan football commitment in recent days in Ohio three-star quarterback Nathan Bernhard.
Michiga football projected to land 2026 QB
The 6-foot-5, 227-pound quarterback out of Ashland, Ohio, visited Ann Arbor last weekend and came away with a scholarship offer. Penn State, Michigan State, Maryland, and Indiana are the other Big Ten teams that have extended scholarship offers.
Ohio State has sniffed around a little, but the Buckeyes haven't offered and I doubt they will. Michigan is the most high-profile offer at this point along with Penn State. The Wolverines are the only team Big Ten team pushing at the moment.
Bernhard passed for over 2,800 yards last season. He is also a threat to run the ball. Following his visit and the offer by Michigan football last weekend, Steve Wiltfong of On3.com put in a projection for the On3 prediction machine for the Ohio quarterback to land with Michigan football.
Wiltfong is the first to project the 2026 QB to Michigan. There aren't any crystal balls yet, however, the On3 prediction machine gives Michigan a 95-percent chance to win his commitment.
Bernhard told Wiltfong a commitment could be coming soon, regardless of the school, but that's another reason Michigan football fans should feel good about where U-M stands.
