Bryce Underwood is turning heads but another Michigan football freshman has 'flashed'

Bryce Underwood isn't the only freshman standing out for Michigan football during spring ball.

Spring practices have been underway for over a week now for Michigan football and one of the most common themes has been the stellar performance of Bryce Underwood.

The five-star freshman has dazzled so far this spring. Not only have players walked away talking about his size and his ability to throw the ball, but we have seen him throwing in a Michigan football uniform for the first time and the ball just looks different.

Underwood can make throws that others can't. He's also been dynamic with his legs, making things happen, and extending plays, according to a report from Chris Balas of The Wolverine.

Count Derrick Moore, the standout Michigan football defensive end, among those who are impressed.

“There isn’t really too much to talk about, man,” Moore said via The Wolverine. “I get that question asked a lot. Bryce has looked like a guy. He looks like he’s been in college. He’s looking good out there. His ball placement is crazy. He’s been throwing dots all around practice lately."

It feels more and more like Underwood will be the Michigan football starting quarterback this fall, however, there is a still a long way to go. He is certainly living up to the hype so far though.

Another Michigan football freshman "flashed"

Michigan football showed some interest in cornerbacks during the transfer portal window in the winter, but with the play of Shamari Earls, a top-100 signee in the 2025 class ranked 88th overall, it might not be needed.

Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore said this week that Earls "has definitely flashed." The 6-foot-2, 203-pounder from Chester, Virginia was committed to Georgia at one time before flipping to the Wolverines.

Earls has drawn Will Johnson comparisons. Johnson also made an impact right away with Michigan football. Zeke Berry and Jyaire Hill are expected to be the starting corners. Rod Moore should also be in the mix at Nickel.

Yet, the Wolverines will needs others to emerge and Earls has elite potential. He's probably been overlooked in part because of Underwood, but Earls is a recruit that we'll look back at in a few years and wonder how he wasn't a five star.
