Kyle Whittingham has put together an impressive recruiting class in his first cycle as Michigan football head coach; However, based on some new crystal ball predictions, the Wolverines aren't done in 2027.
Michigan football has 21 commitments in the 2027 class a few months before Early National Signing Day. 15 of those prospects are blue-chip prospects. It's a strong class that is currently ranked 11th overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Michigan football trending for three-star DL recruit in 2027 class
There is buzz about a new addition to the class, one that could come soon. The buzz is about Amanaki Henoa, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive lineman whose brightest days are in front of him and who is trending hard to the Wolverines.
Henoa is from Layton, Utah. That's where he's playing high school football in 2026 at least. The 300-pounder is actually from New Zealand. He's got a rugby background, but has taken to American football quickly and has been credited with with 14 tackles (3 TFL), 3 QBH and a sack through three games this season via his 247 Sports profile.
Michigan football extended a scholarship offer on July 15th. Some other programs have shown interest, such as BYU, Boise State, Iowa State, and Penn State. Whittingham, who has close ties to the state of Utah after spending two decades as the Utes head coach, seems to be taking advantage of that inside knowledge.
The Wolverines were the first program to offer. Now, after multiple crystal ball projections from Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider and others, they are poised to get his commitment. Henoa is ranked as the No. 1,830 prospect in the 2027 class. It makes sense because the kid has only played a handful of high school football games. When U-M offered, he had yet to play in an American high school football game.
Now that he has three quarterback hurries and a sack, it seems Michigan is ready to move forward with a commitment that could come any day now. Some fans might focus on the recruiting ranking, but this recruit is raw. The upside is real, and the ranking right now, at least, is irrelevant.
