Michigan football will be back in action on Saturday against Wisconsin after a bye week. Yet, even with it being a bye week, the Wolverines have been active on the recruiting trail.

Part of that is out of necessity. Michigan football lost a commitment in the 2026 class on Sunday as Ole Miss was able to pull off a flip. Dorian Barney, a four-star cornerback who was flirting with the Rebels and Georgia Tech, flipped to the Rebels.

He's ranked No. 228 overall. Barney was a solid prospect. But Michigan was looking for cornerback help even before his flip to the Rebels. Michigan has been in communication with several cornerbacks committed to other programs. One of them is Nebraska commit Danny Odem.

Odem has been hearing from Michigan since the summer. However, after Barney flipped to Ole Miss, that communication ramped up to an official offer, which went out on Sunday night, according to a post from Odem on X.

You never know how serious recruits are about a new offer at this point. However, this didn't come out of the blue. Lamar Morgan has been in contact with Odem. Morgan even visited Odem in person this week, during the bye week.

Danny Odem flipping to Michigan feels possible

Aiden Sen of Rivals reported that Michigan is "building significant momentum" with a recent four-star commitment, which is Odem. Sen is also reporting that Odem is already planning a visit to Ann Arbor for a game.

The first rule when it comes to a flip is that it usually takes a visit or two, getting the recruit on campus, before a flip becomes a realistic possibility. Michigan football is already making progress on that front. The Wolverines have had a defensive back drafted in six of the past seven NFL drafts.

They have that to sell Odem, who is out of Orlando, and is ranked No. 191 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. it would be a massive get and this is something to monitor as we move towards Early National Signing Day in December.
