Michigan football suffered a loss in the 2026 recruiting class as Ole Miss, fresh off a top-five win over LSU on Saturday, flipped four-star cornerback Dorian Barney.
The 6-foot-1 cornerback has visited other programs recently, so this isn't a huge shock. The No. 228 overall prospect in the 2026 class is out of Carrollton, Georgia. He's a solid recruit. You never want to lose a four-star commitment, but this doesn't feel like the end of the world.
Barney visited Georgia Tech last weekend. Ole Miss has been pushing as well. But the Wolverines have been pushing to flip other cornerbacks, so even with Barney in the fold, it's clear Michigan football wasn't happy with the cornerback haul.
Michigan football offers Nebraska commitment
Four-star Danny Odem, a Nebraska commitment from Florida ranked No. 191 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, was offered by Michigan this week. The Wolverines have been monitoring him, but they offered the 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back after Barney flipped to Ole Miss. This is via Ethan McDowell of The Wolverine.
Odem has been committed since this summer. Yet, some other programs have tried to flip him. He seems solid but if the Wolverines can get him on campus for a visit, you never know. It might not hurt that Michgan defeated Nebraska last week.
Odem would be an upgrade in the long term if the Wolverines can flip him. It won't be easy. He's Nebraska's top-rated commitment.
Michigan football drops in AP poll after bye week
The Wolverines were off this week, but still dropped to No. 20 in the AP Poll. It was a wild week. LSU was upset, along with Georgia, Penn State, and USC.
The Nittany Lions lost in overtime to Oregon during the "White Out." Dante Moore looks like a true Heisman contender and Oregon looks like the best team in college football. They are ranked No. 2 behind No. 1 Ohio State.
