Michigan football continues to lay the groundwork for a strong 2027 class, and the Wolverines got some positive news on the recruiting trail on Wednesday.
Four-star safety, Tavares Harrington, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound safety out of the Chicago area, included the Wolverines in a top-10 list that was released on Tuesday, which included the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Florida State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kentucky.
On top of being in the top group for Harrington, who is ranked No. 109 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Ethan McDowell of The Wolverine also reports that Harrington is supposed to visit Ann Arbor next weekend.
Michigan football is a finalist for elite DB recruit Tavares Harrington but has work to do
Michigan has been trending up in the recruitment of Harrington. The fact that the Wolverines, despite completely turning over their coaching staff, following the hiring of Kyle Whittingham, is in the running, shows how much ground the Wolverines have made up in recent weeks.
The visit next weekend is huge. The Wolveriners need to impress Harrington and get him back for an official visit. According to his 247 Sports profile, Georgia is the only program listed as "warm." The Bulldogs also have an official locked in for the summer already, as does Alabama.
That's the next objective for Michigan. They aren't going to win his commitment with a spring visit. But getting him back on campus, following a visit in the spring of 2024, is a good sign. Georgia, Alabama, and Notre Dame have had him on campus multiple times.
Michgan football will be able to say the same thing next week. Getting Harrington back for a third visit, an official visit this summer, will be a sign that the Wolverines are a true contender in this recruitment.
