The Michigan basketball season came to a sudden end on Friday night with a loss to Auburn in the Sweet 16.
The cold reality of the sport is that the page has now turned to the 2025-26 season. As much as Dusty May's first season will live on in the hearts of Michigan basketball fans, hanging a banner after the worst season in program history, the work has begun to get back.
And make no mistake, the next few weeks will be critical in terms of adding talent to the 2025-26 Michigan basketball roster.
The first dominos that we need to fall are whether Danny Wolf and Nimari Burnett will be back. Vlad Goldin and Rubin Jones are out of eligibility. Roddy Gayle and Will Tschetter have both said they will be back already.
Even if Wolf returns, which is unlikely, Dusty May said he expects Wolf to be playing in the NBA next season, the Wolverines need help in the frontcourt. They will probably need new starters at the four and the five.
One possibility for at least one of those spots is San Diego State transfer Magoon Gwath. The 17th-ranked prospect in the transfer portal according to 247 Sports, as well as the third-ranked center, was the Defensive Player of the Year in the Mountain West this past season
The 7-footer would be a great fit. He shot 55 percent on 2-point attempts last season as a freshman. He averaged 8.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and a Mountain-West leading 2.6 blocks. He also made 17 3-pointers and shot 37 percent from beyond the arc.
Gwath is an elite defender. He also has a ton of untapped potential, especially on offense. Davis Moseley a Michigan basketball insider posted on X Saturday that he's close to putting in a prediction for the big man to land at Michigan. He also said the Wolverines were battling Kentucky.

Michigan battling Kentucky for Gwath
Really intriguing prospect https://t.co/RRYXx3qzBu
NIL is sure to be a factor. However, the Wolverines need to replace their 7-footers. Gwath isn't polished offensively but he could easily be a double-digit scorer and an All-Big Ten defender.
It will be an interesting recruitment to watch but if the Wolverines are able to land his commitment, it would be a great start to the offseason.
