Latest Juke Harris update shows Michigan still has work to do under Dusty May

Dusty May's Michigan Wolverines may be national champions, but they cannot win at everything...

Say it ain't so! Although the Michigan Wolverines were one of the teams former Wake Forest Demon Deacons star Juke Harris could have potentially transferred to, that no longer looks like it could be the case. The Salisbury, North Carolina native could have stayed in-state to play for Michael Malone in Chapel Hill, but he looks increasingly likely to be transferring to a neighboring state in this offseason...

On Friday morning, On3's Pete Nakos logged an expert prediction for Harris to transfer to Tennessee.

Yes, we can say that Michigan's chances of landing Harris now are on full respirator mode. Nakos' expert prediction comes in at a 60-percent confidence level, for what it is worth. So you are telling me there is a chance? Potentially, but do not count on it... Rick Barnes is looking to add his next Ja'Kobi Gillespie in the portal, and he seems to be on the verge of it. So what does this mean for Dusty May?

For Michigan, it means that even if the spoils go to the victors, you cannot always get what you want...

Michigan Wolverines not expected to land Juke Harris in transfer portal

Look. Even if Harris does not end up coming to Ann Arbor this offseason, so what? Michigan is still on top of the college basketball world. The Wolverines just won their first national championship in 36 years. May is not going anywhere. While being the defending national champions could help in the transfer portal, it carries even more gravitas in high school recruitment. May knows this to be true.

For Tennessee, the Vols are desperately trying to reach the Final Four for the first time in program history. They have made it to the Elite Eight in each of the last three seasons. Barnes did take his former team in Texas to the Final Four, but that was over two decades... He is no spring chicken. Give him credit for operating with a crashing sense of urgency in the portal. May can, but does not have to.

Regardless, anything the Michigan basketball program can use as a slight could help them on their quest of repeating next season. Winning March Madness is so incredibly hard. Only one team can be crowned champions each year. Michigan emerged as the best team throughout last campaign. But that was last year, and this is now. Even if Michigan does not land Harris, this is still an excellent team.

At this time, Michigan needs to put its head down and try to scale that massive mountain once again.
