Michigan football suffered a disastrous loss on Saturday night, falling to in-state rival Michigan State 15-6.
Outside of beating Ohio State, it was the last way to salvage some sort of pride about this season. Instead of winning another game against the Spartans, the Wolverines didn't score for the first 58 minutes and lost by nine points as a 14-point favorite.
With the way this season has gone, it almost isn't surprising. You expected Michigan to play well against Michigan State, but one team was ready for the rivalry game, while the other looked like it would rather be anywhere but the Big House, Whittingham included.
Michigan HC Kyle Whittingham on if something has to change with Jason Beck:

"Not right now. Not right here as I sit at the podium."
He says he'll evaluate after the season and determine what the best course of action is.
Kyle Whittingham isn't going to fire Jason Beck
After being held to 195 yards by the No. 84 scoring defense in college football, Whittingham said he still didn't think Jason Beck was the problem.
"Not right now. Not as I sit at the podium," Whittingham said about a change at offensive coordinator.
Whittingham said he would evaluate things at the end of the season. The former Utah head coach keeps acting like he will be in Ann Arbor next year, but that seems far from guaranteed.
We'll see what happens. There is a good chance Saturday's loss to Michigan State sealed his fate, which shouldn't surprise anyone since Whittingham had no explanation for what happened.
"As disappointed as I've ever been as a head coach and as frustrated as I've ever been as a head coach," Whittingham said. "Right now, I can't explain it."

Kyle Whittingham hasn't had answers from game one
Whittingham has made the argument that Michigan football hasn't been that far away. It's true they had their chances in each of the games they lost, but they also needed a fourth-quarter interception returned to the five to beat Oklahoma. A Hail Mary was needed against Western Michigan, as well as a last-minute touchdown drive to Beat Rutgers.
Whittingham said his team didn't seem to have the same energy as Michigan State. He also talked about how the Wolverines could add players in the portal before next season.
With the way this season has gone, that's delusional. He threw players under the bus with the comment, suggesting that more talent will resolve the issue, while saying his offensive coordinator doesn't need to go.
What Whittingham doesn't realize is that those comments will make some players not want to play for him, even if he sticks around as the head coach, which feels less likely by the day.
