Big recruiting weekends are on the horizon at Michigan, with a lot of recruits coming in June. New head coach Kyle Whittingham is going to have his hands full in June with the number of potential recruits coming to Ann Arbor, but he can't solely focus on the future.
Whittingham still has quite a few recruits coming in before those big weekends, including a handful this upcoming weekend. One of the biggest recruits that could already be leaning Michigan's way is four-star offensive lineman Niko Kampas, an international player out of the NFL Academy.
Kampas will be on campus this weekend for an official visit, just one day after an official visit with the competing program, Auburn.
Four-star OL Niko Kampas set to visit Michigan this upcoming weekend
Kampas is a four-star recruit, according to Rivals recruiting, and the organization has him leaning slightly towards Michigan at the moment. Granted, that could change at the drop of a hat, but Whittinghma could close the deal this weekend.
The 6-foot-7, 271-pound offensive lineman out of Kaarst, Germany, was once a basketball and volleyball player before turning his focus to football at the NFL Academy. That strength, though, from both of those sports can certainly help Kampas on the football field, too.
According to 247Sports, Kampas is the No. 226 player in the Class of 2027, the No. 27 offensive tackle in the class, and the No. 1 player in the UK NFL Academy campus. With now 15 commits in the Class of 2027, 247Sports has Michigan with the No. 11 recruiting class in the nation, and Kampas can only help those rankings.
Whittingham only has two offensive linemen committed in the Class of 2027, so to continue building depth on the line, Kampas would be a great get for the new Michigan coach. He would also add another four-star recruit to an already stacked class.
What is the NFL Academy?
The NFL Academy is an elite developmental program for international student-athletes. The program provides full-time high school-level education alongside professional-level football training. This program also acts as a direct pathway for players to receive college scholarships to play and have the ability to get to the NFL.
Players do get a chance to play other high schools as the academy schedule games against high-level teams to allow coaches to see players in a game situation. The academy has campuses in the UK and Australia.
