Key target for Michigan football projected elsewhere

Despite some positive vibes, a four-star linebacker has been projected to go somewhere else instead of committing to Michigan football.

One of the big needs left in the 2026 recruiting class for Michigan football is at linebacker, and one of the top targets left on the board is four-star linebacker Nick Abrams.

Abrams would be a perfect fit as an inside linebacker for the Wolverines. He could also play multiple positions in a 4-3 scheme.

Out of Owings Mills, Maryland, Abrams is ranked No. 249 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, and a dynamic athlete. Abrams reminds me a little of Jaishawn Barham. He's a great blitzer off the edge.

Abrams would be better suited as an inside linebacker. He can run sideline-to-sideline, but I could see him as a 4-3 OLB.

Regardless with just three-star linebacker Markel Dabney committed in the 2026 class, Abrams has turned into a key target. Recently, Michigan started getting some positive buzz. However, on Monday, Steve Wilftong of On3.com put in a projection for Abrams to land with Georgia.

The commitment announcement is set for July 16th (Wednesday) so this is significant. There haven't been any crystal ball projections or any others for the On3/Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Wiltfong usually has the pulse of the recruitment. He did with Calvin Russell. Most poeple thought it would be Michigan, but he always leaned more toward Syracuse. Oregon and Alabama are also in the mix for Abrams, so a lot can change over the next two days.

What's next if Michigan can't land Nick Abrams

Missing on Abrams would be another blow for the linebacker haul in the 2026 class, but Duyon Forkpa is another name on the radar. He's ranked No. 240 overall in the 2026 class. The size is similar to Abrams' at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds.

Florida is the favorite for Forkpa, but he just decided to delay his commitment announcement until the fall, giving Michigan football a chance to win him over.

If Abrams recruitment goes as predicted, a commitment from Forkpa will be needed.
