Victors Weekend is known as the biggest recruiting weekend for Michigan all year, and while many people expected a lot of 2027 commitments, there was a surprise 2028 commitment. Last season, Michigan's special teams unit had some major struggles, but changes have already been made to fix that problem, starting with hiring former Ohio State assistant coach Kerry Coombs.

Coombs brings a wealth of coaching experience to Michigan, having coached many players throughout high school, college, and the NFL. Coombs was even named the 1017 National Recruiter of the Year by Rivals, and he is clearly putting those skills to work now in Ann Arbor.

Michigan is still wrapping up its 2027 recruiting class and slowly starting to turn its attention to the 2028 class. Before this weekend, head coach Kyle Whittingham had not landed a 2028 commitment, until Saturday night, when the No. 1 kicker in the 2028 cycle, Ryan Jung, committed to the Wolverines.

Coombs took to social media to announce the commitment, and his reaction, which consisted of a very long 'Boom' in all caps, should fire up Michigan fans. One of his hashtags also read, "in the middle of our biggest weekend of the year but never too early to get started on the next great class."

The commitment of Jung is big in so many different ways. Not only did Michigan just get one of the best specialists in the 2028 recruiting cycle, but it also marks the start of Michigan's 2028 class. Even though the coaching staff was only allowed to directly contact 2028 prospects as early as this past week, some schools already had a few 2028 commits.

Michigan can now join that list with the commitment from Jung, who has dreamed of playing for Michigan since seeing the Big House for the first time.

"When I first moved to America, I was looking at football stadiums, and when I saw the Big House, I was like, 'yeah, I want to go there,'" Jung told The Michigan Insider. "As soon as I saw the crowd and the atmosphere… my friend showed me a documentary… I was like, 'yeah, that's where I want to play football.'"

Jung is currently attending high school in Milton, Georgia, but the move to Michigan seems to be something he wants very badly. Jung attended a Michigan camp last week and continued to build the connection he already had with Coombs, which is another big reason he is excited to play for the Wolverines.

Coombs knew who Jung was before the two ever connected, and one small thing really impressed Jung about his interaction with Coombs. The longtime coach created a whole presentation on everything he loved from Jung's film, which made the 2028 prospect feel like he really cared about him and his skill set.

While Jung won't join the Wolveirnes for a few more years, Michigan is getting one of the best kickers in the country out of the Class of 2028, and Jung could be a difference maker for Michigan when he steps on campus.
