The search is already well underway for the Michigan Wolverines' new head coach after the program fired Sherron Moore (and the aftermath that followed unfolded).

One of the names that has repeatedly popped up as a top candidate for the Wolverines to go after is Arizona State's head coach Kenny Dillingham, who took over the Sun Devils' program in 2023 after a year as the Oregon Ducks' offensive coordinator.

In the three seasons with ASU, Dillingham has already led the team to a berth in the College Football Playoff, with the Sun Devils winning the Big 12 Championship in 2024 and earning a bye in the first round of the playoffs before losing to the Texas Longhorns.

Kenny Dillingham could be perfect for Michigan

Dillingham has zero ties to the Wolverines, which honestly might be exactly what the program needs following two scandals in just a handful of years.

He is an alum of Arizona State, which could make it difficult for the Wolverines to lure him away from his current program. Not to mention, he signed a five-year contract extension with the Sun Devils, keeping him at ASU until 2029 and raising his salary to $5.8 million.

However, with the perennial powerhouse status that Michigan can boast, why wouldn't he want to take a shot at coaching a team like the Wolverines?

While rumors fly in one direction and another as to who will be the next head coach of Michigan, the focus on Dillingham as a possibility has only grown.

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer was also tied to the job opening in Ann Arbor immediately after Moore was fired. Still, more likely than not, the Crimson Tide's leader isn't leaving his current job anytime soon, especially as he leads them to a CFP appearance.

Dillingham, as a young but already experienced head coach, could be a refreshing choice for the Wolverines' next leader and should be someone that the program and its fans pay close attention to.
