As it turns out, Notre Dame superstar and projected Top 10 pick Jeremiyah Love was much closer to signing with Michigan than any of us could have imagined. Love, who just wrapped up a stellar career in South Bend, is getting a ton of national attention right now and rightfully so.

Michigan football very much in the hunt for 330-pound OL

In a recent interview with Rich Eisen, the speedster revealed that while he was committed to Notre Dame, Michigan and Jim Harbaugh kept recruiting him and Love even had some second thoughts on Signing Day. The idea of flipping at the last minute crossed his head, but in the end, he put the pen to paper and made things official with the Irish.

Jeremiyah Love gave serious thought to flipping from Notre Dame to Michigan

"I was committed to Notre Dame, and it came to signing day. I was literally this close to going to Michigan," Love said via On3 on nearly flipping to the Wolverines. "But I was like, ‘I’m committed to Notre Dame. I’m just going to stick with them. Even though I kind of want to go to Michigan. I kind of want to go there. I’m just going to stick it out with Notre Dame. I’m going to stick with my first choice.'"

You've got to be kidding.

Love signed with Notre Dame as a member of the 2023 class, doing so ranked as the No. 5 running back in the country. The Wolverines were always serious contenders in his recruitment, with a June official visit clearly turning his head.

However, Notre Dame always made him a top priority and they were able to land his verbal pledge. Despite other schools, including Michigan, still recruiting him, Love knew in his heart that he belonged with Notre Dame and the rest is history.

Can you imagine if he would have flipped, though, and signed with the Wolverines? Things probably would have gone quite differently the past two campaigns, but we'll never know for sure there. Michigan won the national title in 2023, so it's not like the program has been starved for success without Love. Still, we can't help but think 'what could have been' for the Ann Arbor side if Love would have pulled off a Signing Day stunner.
