Kyle Whittingham hasn't landed a five-star recruit as the Michigan football head coach, but there's a chance that could happen next month for the Wolverines new head coach.

Michigan has been steadily gaining traction with five-star defensive lineman David Folorunsho, who is out of Chicago and rated as a five-star prospect, ninth overall by Rivals. The 6-foot-4, 285-pounder is ranked 37th overall via the Rivals Industry Rankings and is a consensus top-50 prospect.

On Wednesday, Michigan was one of five schools to be named as a finalist for the elite talent. Notre Dame, which always has a strong presence in the Chicago area, is one of those schools. Texas Tech, Miami and Georgia are the others.

All five schools that made the final list, reported by Hayes Fawcett, have hosted the defensive lineman for a visit in the past month. Notre Dame is set to have him on campus four times this spring and summer.

On3 reports that Folorunsho will visit South Bend in June, after his commitment. That gives you a decent idea of who is setting the pace in this recruitment. There are heavy spenders involved, though, Michigan included.

Notre Dame got a trio of predictions, including one from Steve Witfong back in February. The most recent projection for the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine was for Texas Tech.

That's an indication that this recruitment isn't over. The Rivals Prediction Machine still gives Notre Dame a 76 percent chance to land his commitment. That seems accurate, but it also means the door is still open for others with a few weeks to go.

That includes Michigan, which, at the very least, has built some positive momentum in a short time.
