Injury updates that should have Michigan football fans breathing easier

Outside of nearly losing to Northwestern at Wrigley Field on Saturday, the worst thing about the game was the shoulder injury suffered by Michigan football running back Jordan Marshall.

Marshall, who has 762 rushing yards in seven Big Ten games this season, was knocked out of the game after a hard tackle in which he landed right on his shoulder. That was after he carried the ball 19 times for 145 yards and scored two touchdowns. He also had a 65-yard run.

The injury looked bad. Marshall didn't return to the game, but according to Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore, Marshall is "day-to-day."

Moore added more detail. He said he was confident that Marshall would be "good to go" for Ohio State, but that he was "day-to-day" right now.

That makes it sound like there is more of a question about him playing on Saturday than against Ohio State, although in the Big Ten title race/playoff chase, they are both important. If Michigan loses to Maryland, the game against Ohio State won't mean anything, outside of beating Ohio State again, which is a big deal in its own right, as we saw in 2024.

But the game is bigger when there is something on the line for both teams. On another note, Gus Johnson poured cold water on the idea that Justice Haynes could play against Ohio State. Yet, Moore said he wouldn't categorize Haynes as out for the season.

Moore did say that he's "probably" out for the regular season but not the postseason. I take that to mean if Michigan makes the College Football Playoff, he could return.

As long as the Wolverines have one elite running back against Ohio State, they should be fine.
