The Michigan football spring game will be held on Saturday afternoon with the start time scheduled for 2 pm EST.

Last year's game was shown on a tape delay. There won't be the same issue for the 2026 Michigan football spring game. The Wolverines "open practice" will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

What to expect for Michigan spring game

As for what to expect, that's a little less straightforward. It was reported that Bryce Underwood wasn't going to play by Tony Garcia of the Detroit Free Press. However, Jake Butt announced on his podcast that Underwood would play during the first quarter, so who knows?

Butt said that the starters would play for a quarter and that Underwood would quarterback the Maize and the Blue squads during that period, in which there would be thud tackling.

After that, Michigan will turn it over to Tommy Carr and Chase Herbstreit. The four-star freshman quarterback has turned heads this spring. He could be the future starting quarterback, after Bryce is gone, so it will be exciting to catch a first glimpse.

Savion Hiter is another that fans will be clamoring to see. The five-star freshman has gotten constant praise from Kyle Whittingham and everyone else, so it will be exciting to see him don the Maize and Blue at Michigan Stadium for the first time in a game setting.

Michigan fans will also be keeping a close eye on the trenches, as they should be on both sides of the ball, as well as the wideouts. Jamie Ffrench and J.J. Buchanan have been impressive this spring. So have true freshmen Salesi Moa and Travis Johnson, who are battling for the No. 4 job along with some others.

Michigan needs to see what it has at linebacker. Chase Taylor, Troy Bowles, and Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng are three names to watch closely on Saturday. The secondary seems mostly set, and the defensive line does too, although some younger players like Nate Marshall could emerge. Shamari Earls is another name to know in the secondary. I'm excited to see the growth of Mason Curtis, and there have been positive reports about EDGE Lugard Edokpayi.

Mostly, Michigan fans will be interested in the new schemes on both sides of the ball. Players have raved about Jason Beck's offense. Jay Hill has been elite, too, and Kyle Whittingham has installed a Jim-Harbaugh type of environment. He said he was determined to find out who the tough guys were.

This program has turned a corner and it will show on Saturday, or it should.
