Michigan football got some good news on Tuesday, as it was reported that Andrew Marsh had agreed to terms to return for the 2026 season.

Agreed to terms and signing don't exactly mean the same thing. I'd like to see Marsh make the same post on social media as Bryce Underwood and the others. Still, it's a huge relief if he's in the fold.

With Donaven McCulley out of eligibility, though, Michigan needs another wide receiver. The focus so far for Kyle Whittingham's staff has been roster retention, rightfully so.

Things have been getting better and better on that front. In addition to Underwood and Marsh, three starting-caliber offensive linemen have announced their return, along with Second-Team All-Big Ten cornerback Zeke Berry.

There is more work to do on the player retention front. However, the Wolverines need to make some additions, too, especially at wide receiver, edge, and defensive tackle. That's not negotiable.

A perfect WR target for Michigan football

The options at wide receiver have been drying up quickly. Yet, a former five-star signee of Ohio State, Quincy Porter, who played in four games as a freshman this past season, entered the transfer portal on Tuesday.

For Michigan football, this is a massive opportunity. The Wolverines were one of three finalists for Porter. Penn State was the other. Marques Hagans, who Michigan just hired as a receivers coach, was the primary recruiter for Porter when he was at Penn State.

Brian Hartline, who recruited Porter to Ohio State, went to South Florida. That could be another possible destination, but the Wolverines should be able to outspend USF.

At 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, Porter, who caught four passes for 59 yards this season, would be a dream come true for Michigan football.

Porter would also start. He would be paired with Andrew Marsh and former five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood. There are some hints that this could happen. Rumors even that Michigan is a team to watch, but we shall see.

The Wolverines have needed transfer portal wide receivers for now, a third-consecutive offseason. They haven't landed a big fish. Porter would be that, and in terms of transfer portal additions, it couldn't get much better than Quincy Porter, who also wouldn't have any issues with transfer credits as a true freshman.

It all lines up. Michigan needs to make it happen.
