Michigan football has had a stellar two days in the transfer portal, with three commitments each on Sunday and Monday.
However, it's not all sunshine and roses, as the Wolverines missed out on an essential target on Monday night, as former Cal linebacker Cade Uluave, committed to BYU instead of Michigan.
The Wolverines seemed to have the inside track on landing his commitment, even getting some expert projections. However, as Michigan football fans know well, admissions can get in the way. Michigan has a thing about only accepting 60 transfer credits, which can cause a problem for juniors.
A lot of times, the athlete would need to take more classes at Michigan in order to be eligible. According to EJ Holland of The Wolverine, that appears to be what sent Uluave to BYU.
Most of the other transfers have signed, so hopefully, this doesn't pop up as another issue. Either way, it leaves Michigan with a hole at linebacker and not many options left.
Other LB options for Michigan football
Michigan added Max Alford, a former BYU linebacker, from the portal on Monday. He had 24 tackles and a sack (against Utah) last season. Aisea Moa has also been projected to land with Michigan. He's a former Michigan State linebacker, who had 12 tackles and one tackle for loss last season.
Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, a five-star via Rivals in the 2026 class, will be expected to take on a bigger role next season. Chase Taylor is another freshman who saw extended snaps last season.
That still leaves a lot to be desired so hopefully some new targets emerge for Michigan football in the coming days.
