Elite transfer target will visit Michigan, but fellow blue bloods are circling

Michigan football will host Smith Snowden, one of the top cornerbacks available in the transfer portal for a visit.

Now that Michigan football has locked up Bryce Underwood and some other players on the home front, although there is still work to do, the attention should shift a little toward the transfer portal.

While other programs have been out landing commitments, the Wolverines have gone at a more deliberate pace. The coaching staff just arrived in full on Friday. Player retention was key, as Kyle Whittingham said soon after he was hired.

Those efforts have paid off, despite some defections. There is still time to reel in some of those players, especially expected starting center Jake Guarnera. He's been the biggest loss so far.

An elite transfer target will visit Michigan football

However, the transfer portal can giveth, just as it can taketh. One player Michigan football has been tied to, for obvious reasons, is Smith Snowden, a second-team All-Big 12 cornerback last season, who is currently ranked as the third-best cornerback by 247 Sports (No. 52 overall).

Snowden is 5-10, 180 pounds, and over the past two seasons, he's got 59 solo tackles, six tackles for loss, four interceptions, 17 pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

Michigan lost one of its starting cornerbacks, Zeke Berry, to the portal. Snowden would be a great replacement. He's got one season left to play, and according to EJ Holland of The Wolverine, Snowden will visit Ann Arbor on Wednesday.

"We think it would be a great fit for him," Representatives of Snowden told Holland.

Getting him on campus this week will be huge. Michigan should try to prevent him from leaving because Oregon and Georgia are among the other programs showing strong interest. BYU is also going to get a visit, along with Colorado.

Snowden's former head coach, Kyle Whittingham, is now the Michigan football head coach. That should work in the Wolverines' favor, but this one might be about DC Jay Hill.

Either way, Snowden is a top priority, and he will be on campus for Michigan this week.
