It's no secret that Michigan football has had a horrendous season on the field. Things have been going much better on the recruiting trail, but it appears that too is going to take a hit. One of Michigan's top-ranked commitments, four-star safety Ivan Taylor (60th overall), has been projected to flip to Alabama by Steve Wiltfong of On3.com.
What an Ivan Taylor flip would mean for Michigan football
There's no sugarcoating it, this one hurts. Michigan football was able to flip Taylor from Notre Dame over the Summer, beating out Alabama for his services. But even then, everybody knew it was going to be a battle to keep him. Taylor was receptive towards Alabama following his flip to Michigan, showing that he was torn between the two blue bloods. And with the season that Michigan football is having versus the season Alabama is having, you can't really blame Taylor.
Luckily for Michigan fans, the Wolverines have one of the best secondary classes in the nation, consisting of Shamari Earls, Jayden Sanders, and Kainoa Winston. Michigan is going to have to fight to retain the three of them but has shown that it is willing to pay for top talent.
Never say never, but it sure looks like Taylor will be flipping to Alabama any day now. Assuming Taylor does flip, he will be the second top-100 recruit to flip away from Michigan during the 2025 cycle, joining defensive lineman Nate Marshall, who flipped to Auburn. It'll be interesting to see how Sherrone Moore and the staff do in the face of adversity on the recruiting trail. Go blue.
