Earlier this week, four-star cornerback Monsanna Torbert took back his commitment to the Indiana Hoosiers, reopening his recruitment.
Almost immediately, three teams emerged as the frontrunners to land Torbert: the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and none other than the Michigan Wolverines.
For obvious reasons (yes, the rivalry between the Buckeyes and the Wolverines), Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham must win this recruitment, bringing Torbert to Ann Arbor over Ohio State and Notre Dame.
Michigan should go all in on Monsanna Torbert
Beating out your rivals is one thing, but besting two of the best recruiting programs in the country is yet another accomplishment that is nearly impossible to pass up on pulling off.
Not to mention, adding a four-star prospect to the Wolverines' class of 2027 would be massive for Whittingham.
Torbert is the No. 10 cornerback in his class and the No. 5 prospect in Ohio. As an in-state recruit, the Buckeyes have the obvious edge of keeping Torbert home. However, OSU already has two elite defensive backs in its class of 2027: four-star safety Eli Johnson and three-star safety Angelo Smith.
Similarly, Notre Dame has already landed four-star cornerbacks Xavier Hasan and Ace Alston, as well as four-star safety Zayden Gamble and three-star safety John Gay III.

Now, this isn't to say that Whittingham hasn't landed elite defensive backs for Michigan, he has brought in four-star cornerback Darius Johnson and three-star safeties Maxwell Miles and Charles Woodson Jr.
However, if Torbert joined the Wolverines, he would be the highest-rated defensive back in the class of 2027, giving him a huge leg up to quickly earn starting snaps once he joins the program.
While playing free safety and undeniably being recruited as a defensive back, he has also played snaps at quarterback throughout his high school career. Additionally, Torbert is a two-sport athlete, playing basketball alongside football.
