Michigan football got a major commitment back in April from four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati, who essentially flipped from Illinois to the Wolverines.
Lopati is ranked 10th among quarterbacks in the 2027 class, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, and is also No. 114 overall.
Michigan fans had to be feeling good already about the commitment of Lopati, who is a perfect for the Wolverines new offensive scheme underJason Beck, that features more dual-threat quarterbacks.
Bryce Underwood is expected to run a lot more this season. That will be a key weapon for Lopati, too, which is why he just fits better than the previous four-star commitment, Peter Bourque, who is now committed to James Franiklin and Virginia Tech.
Kamden Lopati shines at Elite 11
Lopati's dual-threat ability is just another reason why the Wolverines should feel good about Lopati's performance at the Elite 11 last week. He was ranked near the bottom in the final rankings, but the vibe was that Lopati put together an impressive performance.

Lopati posted a video with some highlights from the week. His fundamentals look really solid. The footwork looked good, too.
The fact that Lopati threw well and was well-regarded in this setting is a great sign for Michigan football, because he's supposed to be more of a dual-threat than a passer. So if he can succeed throwing the ball, in addition to what he can do as a runner, he should be a dangerous future quarterback option for the Wolverines.
Adding him to the room after the 2026 season would also give Michigan Underwood, Tommy Carr, and Lopati going into the 2027 season. That's an impressive amount of talent at the game's most important position.
Greg Biggins of Rivals also wrote in his scouting report that Lopati has NFL upside. This week only reinforced that.
"A pure thrower with some under-rated athleticism and has shown he can stress a defense with his arm and his legs. For his size, he moves well and shows some real dual-threat ability. Has been highly productive the last two seasons, throwing for over 5,600 yards and nearly 60 touchdowns. Moves well in the pocket and shows the quickness to get outside and elude the rush and throws very well on the run. Rushed for 730 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior and is a zone-read threat who a defense has to respect. A definite high Power 4 prospect with an NFL ceiling," Biggins wrote.
Lopati flashed that this week, and even though he wasn't ranked as high as some others, when the pads come on, he will have a better chance to utilize his full skill set in a way he can't during 7-on-7.
