Michigan basketball is two wins away from the national championship. But head coach Dusty May has no plans for this being a one-time thing.

The Wolverines already have multiple players committed to coming back next season, such as Trey McKenney, who has been a star throughout the NCAA Tournament, and starting point guard Elliot Cadeau, who is one of the most valuable players on the current roster.

Cadeau doesn't get the credit he deserves. He was incredible, though, during the run to the Final Four. The North Carolina transfer was especially good against Tennessee with 10 assists.

Dusty May also has two top-50 prospects in the 2026 recruiting class, and according to a recent expert projection, he's poised to land another.

Brandon McCoy, a 6-foot-4 combo guard who has been selected to play in the McDonald's All-American Game has been projected to commit to the Wolverines. according to Josh Henschke of The Maize and Blue Review.

McCoy is one of the top combo guards in the country. Rivals has him ranked as the No. 11 prospect overall in the 2026 class, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.

McCoy took an official visit to Michigan basketball in October. He also visited Duke, Miami, Alabama, and Arkansas. Yet, Henschke says the Wolverines have momentum. His prediction gives Michigan an 84-percent chance to land McCoy's commitment, which would be huge going into next season.

How Brandon McCoy could help Michigan basketball right away

Trey McKenney will be in the starting lineup next season. That's a no-brainer, but someone could play his role off the bench. McCoy would be a great fit. He's also one of the biggest stock risers at practice for the McDonald's game via Jamie Shaw of On3.

McCoy could also help fill the void left by Roddy Gayle of a strong defender coming off the bench, because he's good in that role, too. Gayle and McKenney both provided some secondary playmaking, and McCoy can do that, while he sees his role expand.

Either way, landing him will be another major recruiting victory for Dusty May, who has been an expert at bringing elite talent to Ann Arbor, just one reason they are on the doorstep of a national title.
