This morning, the Orlando Magic officially fired their head coach, Jamahl Mosley, and are now on the hunt for the franchise's next leader.
The NBA has seen a lot of head coach movement this year, and the Magic are just the latest to join in on the fun, but why are you reading about this on a site designated for news and stories about the Michigan Wolverines?
Well, because just a day before Orlando made the firing official, reports came out that they were big fans of none other than Dusty May, the Michigan men's basketball coach.
Of course, after winning a National Championship, any head coach would receive a lot of attention. Doing that just two years after taking over the program? Well, that attention would increase dramatically.
Orlando Magic may be eying Dusty May to replace Jamahl Mosley
In two years with the Wolverines, May has led the program to a 64-13 overall record, capped off by the National Championship victory, winning 83.1 percent of the games he coached.
This is fresh off turning the Florida Atlantic Owls into a powerhouse program, leading them to a Final Four appearance in 2023, and winning nearly 65 percent of his games at a program that had a losing record before he took over.

“League sources say that the Magic are admirers of Michigan's Dusty May and would have a level of interest if he were indeed available. It must be noted that the expectation at this point in the college game… pic.twitter.com/Vc9w1GVhET
Mosley, who was named as Orlando's head coach in 2021, won fewer than 50 percent of his games with the Magic, going 189-221 during his tenure with the franchise.
The first two years, the Magic missed the playoffs, and in the three years since then, they have been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs every single time.

Simply put, Mosley has fallen well short of expectations for an NBA head coach, while May has been setting the standard and then exceeding it at the collegiate level. It shouldn't come as a surprise that Orlando could look to hire May away from Michigan, but it would be a disaster for the Wolverines.
Don't forget, just two years ago, Michigan was led by Juwan Howard, a legendary member of the Fab Five, but wasn't quite as fabulous as the Wolverines head coach.
Howard led the Michigan men's basketball program for five years, and eked out a winning record at 87-72 overall. He went 8-24 during his final season with the program, a drastic fall from their appearance in the Elite Eight under Howard's guise just a few years earlier.
