Michigan football quarteback Bryce Underwood has never been one to shy away from the spotlight or expectations.
Underwood has stated his goals plainly: Win the Heisman trophy and a national championship. He told Rich Eisen that he even told LeBron James, "It's over for Ohio State."
Of course, if you're going to talk the talk, you better walk the walk. Underwood will get the chance to do that soon enough, as everyone expects Michigan football to name the phenom its starting quarterback.
In a recent interview with Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider, Underwood talked about his growth process and how the spring helped him grow as a quarterback.
"I'd say the speed of my game and also my (comfort)," Underwood told Webb about the spring. "I went in a little nervous, of course, because it's my first step ever being in college. But then it was just like, 'hold on, this is just football. Relax. Calm down. You've been doing this for 10, going on 11 years now.'"
Bryce undrewood promises a "big change" for Michigan football
Even as the top recruit in college football, there is going to be a transition from high school to college football. There will be growing pains this season. Underwood is going to have spectacular moments. There will also be mistakes, and times when he looks like a freshman.
However, Michigan football is going to be different. The Wolverines are going to throw the ball more. Chip Lindsey has said as much, even though "Smash" will still be the identity, there's no question that Underwood will change that identity, at least that's what he's promising to do.
"Honestly, it's going to be a big difference, a big change from what everybody has seen from Michigan football… ever… come August 30th," Underwood told Webb.
This was in response to Webb asking about the Wolverines, "anemic" passing game in the 2024 season, which held Michigan back from what should have been a berth in the College Football Playoff.
So with a reloaded defense, one that should be as good as any in college football, and a potential superstar at quarterback, this season should be different.
How much different than 2024 will be up to Underwood.
