Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore is having one hell of an offseason and it just got better on Sunday night.
Biff Poggi, the former associate head coach under Jim Harbaugh, who spent the past two seasons as the Charlotte head coach, has now returned to the Wolverines in an official capacity according to Alejandro Zuniga of 247 Sports who reported that Poggi's return is now official.
Biff Poggi's return is huge for Michigan football
Poggi was a former high school head coach at St. Frances in Baltimore. His program produced guys like Blake Corum and Derrick Moore. Poggi was also a vital resource during his time on the Michigan football staff.
Not only did Poggi help Michigan football land a number of recruits from the DMV, including Moore, who was ranked as a top-100 defensive lineman coming out of high school, he was also Jim Harbaugh's right-hand man.
Poggi went just 6-16 over the past two seasons as the Charlotte head coach. He was fired before the end of the 2024 season and returned to Ann Arbor to spend time with Moore and the coaching staff.
It just so happens that Michigan football ended the season on a three-game winning streak. The Wolverines found their identity. The defense finished the year playing as well as any in college football. That was a major factor.
But Sherrone Moore was able to maintain the culture that led to three Big Ten championships, as well as a national title, and Poggi's presence late in the season sure seemed to help with that.
Moore has a lot on his plate and having a trusted advisor on staff will be immensely helpful whether it's with roster management or even in-game management.
Michigan's culture has been a huge part of its success and Poggi was one of the original architects.
