You've got to give it to Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham when it comes to retaining players who we all thought were going to be on their way out of town. On Wednesday, some rough news came in with Cole Sullivan bolting for Oklahoma, but this should cheer you up.
Michigan did everything to keep this star LB but he's off to Oklahoma instead
That'd be that Michigan offensive lineman Andrew Sprague isn't going anywhere. Recently, plenty of eyebrows were raised when it was announced he was going to enter the portal. With other schools showing interest, Sprague told them thanks, but no thanks. Yup, he'll be in Ann Arbor next fall where he belongs:

Michigan OL Andrew Sprague flirted with the transfer portal, but he'll return to Ann Arbor
Texas was among the schools showing interest in Sprague, but Whittingham was able to sit him down and sell the big-bodied lineman on his Michigan plans for 2026. Right guard Jake Guarnera also appeared to have one foot out the door, but just like Sprague, he'll be back too.
Don't forget that cornerback Zeke Berry also let everyone know that he's pulling himself out of the portal as well. Oh, and Bryce Underwood isn't leaving either. The list goes on. While yes, there have been some losses this week, you've got to give credit to Whittingham and his new staff.
Things of course haven't been easy for the veteran coach, as he has come in to replace Sherrone Moore. Despite that, Whittingham has hit the ground running and the pieces are being put in place for the Wolverines to make a ton of noise next fall.
There are still some positions that Michigan is going to have to attack in the portal, but luckily right tackle is not going to be a concern. Again, it seemed like Sprague was going to be suiting up elsewhere next year, potentially in the SEC, but the Wolverines retaining him is yet another huge win for the program's new leader in Whittingham.
