Not all jobs are created equally. Kyle Whittingham is well aware of this. While he has already put forth a hall-of-fame-level coaching career from his two-decade run at Utah, it was an easy choice for him to come to Michigan. While appearing on The Rich Eisen Show on Tuesday, Whittingham explained his methodology on why now was the perfect time for him to continue his career with the Wolverines.

He started by saying how he first got in contact with Michigan upon resigning from his post at Utah.

"You know, I don't know what the first contact was. It was through my agent and so, it was shortly thereafter when I stepped down that he said, 'Hey, do you have interest in Michigan?' and I said, 'Who wouldn't? It's a top-five job in the country.'"

Whittingham then said that this is truly one of the premier jobs in the country across college football.

"You can really count on one hand the number of schools that I would have been interested in. I was not completely bent and determined that I gotta keep coaching, but for the right situation, I was more than willing to listen, and this is absolutely the right situation here."

He finished up by stating the obvious bullet points as to why Michigan is the perfect place for him.

"It's Michigan. Top-five job, excellent athletes, phenomenal tradition, resources, you've got it all here."

Here is everything Whittingham had to say to Eisen about why he decided to take over at Michigan.

Let's now unpack why the vibes could not be higher right now after Whittingham opted to take over.

Even though Whittingham does not need to coach another down to end up in the College Football Hall of Fame, two things have evaded him in his otherwise illustrious career: The College Football Playoff and a national championship. While making the playoff was always possible at Utah, winning it all seems to be out of reach for the Utes, especially when it comes to winning the 12-team playoff...

He may be in his mid-to-late 60s, but for as long as Whittingham feels young at heart, he can achieve extraordinary things at Michigan. Again, he mentioned the resources and tradition working in his favor. Utah has some resources and good tradition in its own right, but nowhere to the degree of Michigan. With the Big Ten re-emerging as the preeminent power conference, he wants to try his luck.

In the end, the Whittingham era may not last forever, but it has the potential to reignite something special up in Ann Arbor. It took a minute before things really took off under Jim Harbaugh. While they hit the fan under Sherrone Moore in year two, Whittingham is not only an accomplished head coach that everybody knows, but he will be the adult in the room that this program clearly needs at this time.

For now, Whittingham needs to do a better job of attacking the transfer portal to keep fans pleased.
