A bomb was dropped on the Michigan football program this week when head coach Sherrone Moore was fired for cause.
We all know the aftermath at this point. It's terrible, and it's tragic. From a Michigan football perpsective, though, the program must go on.
You have hundreds of players and coaches trying to determine their futures. One 2026 recruit, Matt Ludwig of Montana, has been released from his letter of intent. Some commitments reaffirmed their status with the Wolverines, but a new head coach needs to get hired as soon as possible.
A lackluster name connected to Michigan football job
#Michigan has interest in #Browns OC Tommy Rees for its head coach vacancy, league source tells clevelanddotcom: ---> https://t.co/uBKbevDNGM

Warde Manuel is still the athletic director. He's leading the search and one name that was mentioned on Thursday, by Cleveland.com reporter Mary Kay Cabot is Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.
Rees is a former Notre Dame quarterback. He was the offensive coordinator in South Bend under Brian Kelly before leaving to take a job at Alabama. He was on the staff in 2023 when Alabama reached the College Football Playoff.
Rees has spent the past two seasons with the Cleveland Browns as the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach. I have no reason to doubt Mary Kay Cabot. She's one of the best reporters in the NFL. However, I'm skeptical that Michigan football is actually interested.
It feels like this sourcing is coming from the Tommy Rees side of things. Surely, he would love to be the next head coach of Michigan football, but he isn't qualified. Michigan would be laughed out of the room.
The Wolverines could still turn this massive negative into a positive, but only if they can act quickly and hire an elite coach, or the next elite coach like Kenny Dillingham.
Rees isn't that guy, and you have to hope his name is not under consideration, of any kind.
