5 candidates who would be grand slams for Michigan football as head coach

Landing Michigan football's next leader won't be easy based on the timing alone, but an acclaimed coach can still be found to pioneer the way.

It takes a lot of fortitude to be the head football coach at Michigan. The task is insurmountable at times, but the rewards can be lavish. Swinging for the fences to land a grand slam hire is reasonable in my opinion, but the likelihood of it happening is another thing to wish for. What follows is a list of names who I believe can wear that heavy crown that awaits their dream job of destiny.

Kalen DeBoer-Alabama Head Coach

Alabafma maniacs are not in love with DeBoer like they were with Nick Saban. They were spoiled rotten by the taskmaster who Jim Harbaugh sent into retirement. Unfortunately, the standards are just as high at Michigan, and a handful of social media addicts won't give him the patience either at Michigan, but DeBoer is the best name available if he wants to depart from that situation in Tuscaloosa. He's beaten the likes of Oregon and Georgia. A rumor is also circulating that Ty Simpson is injured and that might sway his intentions.

Jay Harbaugh-Seattle Seahawks Special Teams Coordinator

Whoever is making the decision to hire the coach has to take into account all of the men who lost their jobs due to scandals at Michigan under the Jim Harbaugh regime. Jay Harbaugh is not one of them, and he would instantly get endorsed by his Dad, Uncle, and Grandpa. His downside would be that he has not been a head coach before, but he has excelled in every role that he has been spoon -ed.

Jesse Minter-Los Angeles Chargers Defensive Coordinator

Minter is destined to take an NFL job and still has a show cause in college, but he could be a primary candidate to learn the gig in college first, then jump back to the pros if he can win at Michigan. He and Jim's son would have a chance to retain the staff and shouldn't have that many departures. It would be fascinating to see who he would choose to run the offense in the meantime.

Curt Cignetti-Indiana Head Coach

This is a pipe dream, but imagine if Michigan pulled it off, they would arguably have the two best coaches in football and basketball and be the perennial favorites in both yearly. You have to make a call and gauge his interest with a lot of money that Indiana can't match. The newly crowned king of the Big Ten is the second-coming of Jim Harbaugh with how brash he is.

John Harbaugh-Baltimore Ravens Head Coach

A time for a change of scenery is in line for Jim's brother, but why would he leave Baltimore? He's got it made there, but some have been growing tired of him not winning more with an MVP quarterback. Baltimore doesn't make rash decisions like firing their coach, but positions in the NFL don't last forever anymore. Harbaugh is a longshot just like Cignetti.
