Michigan football is in a good position to receive some really good news. On Wednesday, top 100 wide receiver Quentin Burrell is set to commit, per the ON3 Inside Scoop podcast. Michigan has been surging in this recruitment lately, and it was believed that Burrell could make a commitment before taking official visits. It appears that's going to happen, and Michigan is sitting in a good position for the elite receiver out of Chicago.

Over the past six months, Michigan has been heavily prioritizing the wide receiver position. The Wolverines were aggressive in the portal and were also able to retain star freshman receiver Andrew Marsh. Kyle Whittingham appears to understand that in today's game, you need a dynamic passing game.

The latest on Michigan's pursuit of a top-100 wide receiver

Michigan was recruiting Burrell prior to Sherrone Moore being fired. After Moore was fired, however, it started to look like Notre Dame would be the team to beat for Burrell. Kyle Whittingham and co were able to put the full-court press on Burrell, with the talented receiver visiting Ann Arbor twice during the spring. Those visits propelled Michigan above Notre Dame, and barring any surprises, it appears that Michigan is in a good position to earn Burrell's commitment.

The domino effect of this potential commitment could be huge. First off, top running back target Tyson Robinson is set to commit on May 16th. While the Burrell recruitment likely won't affect Robinson's decision, it definitely can't hurt it. The bigger impact could come with the #1 recruit in Michigan, Dakota Guerrant. The elite in state receiver is essentially down to two schools: Michigan and Oregon.

The Ducks seem to be in the lead at the moment, but Michigan has made a huge push here and is neck and neck with the Ducks. The biggest factor in winning over Guerrant will be showing that the new offense is going to be more receiver friendly. Having another elite receiver already in the class would definitely help the Wolverines here. It shows a significant investment of resources into improving the passing attack, and could help convince Guerrant that Michigan is the better option.

Landing Burrell would be an incredible win for Kyle Whittingham. Burrell would be the second top 100 recruit in the class, joining in state offensive lineman Jakari Lipsey. Keep an eye out for this one on Wednesday.
