A connection is growing with 4-star 2028 WR and Michigan’s Micah Simon

Michigan still has some irons in the fire when it comes to the 2027 recruiting class, but attention is beginning to shift to the Class of 2028. Since being able to contact 2028 recruits starting on June 15, the Wolverines have been active in speaking with prospects, welcoming them onto campus, and have even gained a commitment already from one of the top kickers in the country.

If there is one thing this new Michigan coaching staff needs to do, it is to get some in-state guys in the building. Head coach Kyle Whittingham missed out on too many in-state guys, the biggest being five-star wide receiver Dakota Guerrant, who lives less than an hour from Ann Arbor. Instead of staying close to home, Guerrant chose Oregon over Michigan, twisting the knife even more with another Big Ten school.

Now, with the focus shifting to the Class of 2028, Michigan is after yet another in-state wide receiver. The connection four-star wide receiver Mylan Griggs is forming with this new coaching staff, especially with receivers coach Micah Simon, is strong. Griggs can't wait to see what Michigan has to offer this season, especially under the new staff.

"I'm really ready to see what they're about to do this year," Griggs said.

Michigan is not the only in-state school after 4-star WR Mylan Griggs

It comes as no surprise that Michigan isn't the only team high up on Griggs, and honestly, it isn't surprising that they are not the only school in the state of Michigan after him. The Wolverines are clearly going to have to battle rival Michigan State for the Detroit native.

While Griggs commented on what he would like to see out of Michigan this season, he also made a prediction about Michigan State, believing the Spartans' recruiting could 'go off the charts.' Michigan State has given Griggs an offer as well, making this an in-state battle.

Griggs would be a solid recruit for whoever earned his commitment, coming in as the No. 299-ranked player nationally in the Class of 2028, the No. 45 wide receiver in the class, and the No. 7 recruit in the state of Michigan, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

While this would be a battle many Michigan fans think could be easily won, the Spartans could have an ace up their sleeve. Michigan State is also targeting Griggs' teammate, five-star wide receiver Antijuan Wilkes, and both could decide to play together again in college.

Griggs seems very excited about where Michigan State recruiting is going, so this could be a bigger battle for the Wolverines than some would normally expect. However, with the statement Griggs made about Michigan, if the Wolverines perform as well as some expect them to, it could be what brings Griggs to Ann Arbor over East Lansing.

It is a battle of two new head coaches for Michigan and Michigan State. Whittingham has done better than the new Spartans head man, Pat Fitzgerald, but this battle will also be settled on the field in November.
