It feels like the Michigan basketball roster is stuck in a holding pattern. The Wolverines added a new transfer portal commitment on Thursday, but it wasn't the commitment fans were hoping for.
Michigan has been in the mix for Juke Harris and Moustapha Thiam, two of the top players available in the transfer portal. They each visited, but haven't made decisions.
That allowed the attention to shift briefly to five-star recruit Obinna Ekezie, a 5-star recruit in the 2027 class, who is ranked fourth overall, according to the 247 composite rankings.
Ekezie was expected to visit Ann Arbor this weekend. There was even chatter that he could re-classify, and join the team for the 2026-27 season.
Now, that's all a moot point, because the 7-footer is no longer visiting Michigan basketball this weekend, according to a report from Josh Henschke of the Maize and Blue Review.
Michigan needs to land transfer portal priorities
Thiam was on campus Monday for an official visit. He's 7-foot-2 and would have a starting role with the Wolverines next season. Kansas, St. John's and Arkansas are also in the mix, though.
Michigan is also battling Tennessee for 6-foot-7 Wake Forest wing Juke Harris, who scored 21.4 points per game last season for the Demon Deacons. He was the Most Improved Player in the ACC, as well as second-team All-ACC.
Harris made 2.5-point field goals per game last season, shooting 33 percent. He's also a stellar rebounder, ranking seventh in the ACC in total rebounds.
Ekezie could have been a contributor next season if he re-classified, but that pipe dream is over, so that means the focus shifts back to securing transfer portal commitments.
