5-star, potential missing piece for Bryce Underwood visits Michigan football

Michigan football hosted a five-star wide receiver for a visit earlier this week.

If you watch Michigan football, it's clear that the Wolverines have one of the most talented quarterbacks in college football, Bryce Underwood.

It's also clear that they need to surround him with more talent.

Last Saturday's game against Nebraska was a great reminder of why Michigan football needs to recruit more wide receiver talent. 15 percent of Underwood's throws were dropped, including one pass that would have gone for a touchdown.

Underwood has made the players around him better. Just look at the wide receivers this season compared to last. Yet, there is no substitute for talent, and U-M could use a player like five-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell in the 2027 class.

The perfect recruit for Bryce Underwood just visited Michigan

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound receiver out of the Chicago area is ranked 29th overall in the 2027 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He visited last weekend and told Steve Wiltfong of Rivals that he is going to visit again in October.

Burrell has visited Notre Dame four times. The Irish have the lead according to the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine, however, this was Burrell's second visit to Ann Arbor. Another in October would make three, and with Underwood at quarterback, the Wolverines are a real threat in this recruitment.

Burrell told Wiltfong that Michigan is "elite at everything" and that not many schools can offer what the Wolverines can with the combination of football and academics.

Michigan could use a receiver like Burrell. Andrew Marsh has flashed as a freshman. There's a lot to like about Travis Johnson and Zion Robinson, two four-star wideouts committed in 2026, too.

Burrell is a truly elite prospect, though. In 2024, he caught 57 passes for 1,257 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also ran an 11.52 in the 100-meter dash as an eighth grader in 2023.

That's elite and that's exactly the kind of explosiveness Michigan football needs at wide receiver for Bryce Underwood. Burrell will visit for the Wisconsin game next.
