A lot was happening behind the scenes on Early National Signing Day for Michigan football on Wednesday, but the Wolverines were able to prevent any losses from their 2026 class.
That changed on Thursday morning. Zion Robinson, a four-star wideout who has been committed to Michigan since the summer, announced his intentions to sign with Stanford instead of the Wolverines.

Robinson is a high-academic kid. That's one reason why Michigan appealed to him. That's why Stanford makes sense as a destination. The 6-foot-4 pass catcher from Texas is ranked No. 182 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's a dynamic athlete and would have been a welcome addition to Michigan's roster.
A silver lining for Michigan football
However, there have been some other developments. Brady Marchese, a four-star wideout ranked No. 134 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, has been trending with projections to flip from Georgia to Michigan.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder out of Cartersville, Georgia, visited Michigan over the summer, taking an official visit even though he was committed to the Bulldogs. There wasn't much said about him leading up to Early National Signing Day.
Nobody expected any movement. Yet, Marchese, who is signing on Thursday, made it known he was interested in the Wolverines. With Robinson wavering, it came at just the right time. It's hard to say what happened, but Steve Wiltfong and several other recruiting experts are now expecting him to sign with Michigan football on Thursday.
So as long as that happens, losing out on Robinson won't sting nearly as much.
