After the 2027 recruiting cycle slowed to nearly a screeching halt for Michigan, head coach Kyle Whittingham has been diligent in trying to build the Class of 2028. Once coaches were able to directly contact recruits in mid-June, Michigan worked quickly, like a bat out of hell, to get players on campus and offers out.
Michigan has quickly become a contender for one 2028 recruit, and it should come as no surprise with the culture that Whittingham is building in Ann Arbor. Four-star tight end Jordan McKinley has already received 26 college offers, but that list could grow as the 2028 recruiting cycle starts to pick up steam.
McKinley already has an idea of which schools are his top choices, with the Wolverines confidently in the mix. for the No. 274 player in the class and the No. 12 tight end.
"Michigan is for sure up there as one of my top choices,” McKinley told On3.
Michigan is a dream school for 4 ⭐️ '28 TE Jordan McKinley.

Four-star recruit Jordan McKinely could add to Michigan's tight end depth
The tight end position over the last few years has really become a bigger one on the field, as they are no longer looked at as only extra blockers. Now, tight ends are just as valuable in the pass-catching game as ever, and Michigan clearly is aware of that.
Whittingham has not just one, but two tight end commits in the Class of 2027: three-star Colt Lumpris and three-star Christian Hanshaw. On top of that, Whittingham has already handed out 12 offers to tight ends in the Class of 2028, including one to McKinley.
With Michigan already being high on McKinely's list, he could be the first of multiple tight end commits for the Wolverines. Another top tight end Michigan is after is four-star Tytan McNeal, who is currently rated as the No. 1 tight end in the class.
Landing either McKinley or McNeal could be big for Whittingham and his staff, who probably want to make a statement in their first full offseason together. Whittingham was able to settle in nicely at Michigan and build what is a solid class so far for the Wolverines for 2027, but 2028 could be the year they make a bigger splash.
Whittingham comes to Michigan with more money and resources than he ever had at Utah. So, with the early work he has done on the Class of 2028, including welcoming some of the top prospects at their positions to Ann Arbor, the new Michigan Man could make his mark with the Wolverines early.
If Michigan can perform well on the field this year in the first season under Whittingham, it could also set the Wolverines up for a big offseason of recruiting.
