Michigan Football: 3 takeaways from a storybook win over OSU
By Nick Popio
1. The win came with some steep hardships
First and foremost, this is another program-defining win. Anytime you can beat Ohio State after their decades of dominance is beyond describable. It came at a hefty cost though. Zak Zinter was taken off the field with a cart and Will Johnson missed most of the second half with an apparent ankle injury.
In the postgame presser, Sherrone Moore exclaimed that he thinks he’ll be alright. We won’t know for sure until next Saturday night in Indy. That’s encouraging news for him, but the same cannot be said for Zinter. His mom got some positive news from the hospital according to Moore, but anyone with a logical outlook can imagine we won’t see him in a Michigan uniform again, which is so devastating.
Zinter could have been a first-round pick in the draft, and he still can be one, but it may be unlikely now. I’m not a mistake-free person, but if I had to guess, he would probably say it was all worth it by going unbeaten versus Ohio State in his career. Karsen Barnhart replaced him by sliding inside and Trente Jones entered at right tackle. We’ll see if that’s the way they go moving forward.
