Jim Harbaugh contract extension could come ‘very soon’
According to a report from Chris Balas of The Wolverine, a contract extension between Michigan football and Jim Harbaugh could come ‘very soon.’
It’s been clear from the start that this whole NCAA investigation, which got its start because of a private firm, had the objective of making Michigan football look bad.
The goal is also pretty clear: force out Jim Harbaugh.
If you’re Ryan Day and Ohio State, this makes sense. Despite all the rumors, we’ll probably never have a clear connection between the Ohio State head coach and the private firm, which provided details to the NCAA and the Washington Post of its investigation into Michigan.
But if you ask the question, who benefits? All fingers point to Ohio State. More specifically to Ryan Day.
Day is the head coach looking at getting fired if he can’t figure out how to beat Jim Harbaugh and Michigan football in November. He’s the one that has to worry about becoming the next John Cooper.
The Buckeyes’ head man is probably still stinging about the third base comment following the Michigan victory in 2021. Yet, if he couldn’t handle a little trash talk, he shouldn’t have said he would “hang 100” on the Wolverines back in 2020.
This is all connected. It shows how worried Day and the Buckeyes are about Harbaugh because they are clearly trying to orchestrate his removal.
Good news on Jim Harbaugh contract front
However, according to Chris Balas of The Wolverine, the administration, led by President Santa Ono, “unanimously” supports signing Harbaugh to a contract extension.
I have been calling for it and as Balas reports, it will include language regarding the NCAA investigation. However, Balas wrote that an announcement could come “very soon” which would be music to the ears of Michigan football fans and a reason to celebrate.
My entire concern with this hasn’t been the NCAA. It’s been whether or not Michigan will be willing to go to bat for Jim Harbaugh and if this report is true, we have our answer on that.
