There have been questions about the future of Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh but there were positive signs on Thursday.

Throughout the Michigan football sign-stealing scandal, my biggest concern has been the way that the University will respond.

I fully believe that this whole thing is being overblown. There is no evidence to suggest that viewpoint is wrong at this point, and that is reportedly still the case after the NCAA visited Michigan football and interviewed staff members.

There were conflicting reports on this. Chris Balas reported that coaches were being prepped for interviews. However, according to Angelique Chengelis, only staff members (not coaches) were interviewed on Thursday.

People have argued about whether that’s good news or bad news. I don’t really know on that front. However, Balas reported there was no new evidence, and even Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports reported that as of yet, there has been nothing connecting Jim Harbaugh to this.

However, the best part of the report from Balas is that there is a “99 percent” chance Michigan and Harbaugh finish the season without penalty.

Balas also noted that there is a path for Harbaugh to stay as the Michigan head coach going into the future. To piggyback on that, Josh Henschke of Rivals, tweeted this about Harbaugh getting support from some key figures, which is as good as it gets on the news front.

Jim Harbaugh is still going to face some sort of penalty for the Connor Stalions stuff. However, it won’t be as severe as it would be if there was evidence that Harbaugh directed it.

That hasn’t worried me as much as the response by Michigan, such as the idea being floated of Harbaugh getting fired or leaving for the NFL.

Next. Some good news for Michigan football. dark

The Wolverines would be dumb to fire him. They should back him 100 percent and sign him to a new deal yesterday. Backing Harbaugh is probably the most important part of keeping him in Ann Arbor and the good news for Michigan — that’s one thing it can actually control.
