Michigan football: New contender emerging for 5-star Bryce Underwood
Michigan football is among the favorites for five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, but the Wolverines have a new team to contend with.
When it comes to Michigan football recruiting, there isn’t a bigger name on the board than Bryce Underwood — the five-star 2025 quarterback from Belleville, Michigan.
Underwood is ranked as the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the 2025 class and he’s the most important recruit on the board for the Wolverines.
The good news is that thanks to quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell, Michigan football has been on the rise in this recruitment. Underwood visited numerous times this spring and summer, which includes a trip for the Michigan football recruiting BBQ at the end of July.
Underwood spent the last two days before the dead period seeing the Wolverines. He also took a two-day trip to LSU and it’s safe to say the Tigers and Michigan football have been viewed as the top two contenders.
However, LSU got smacked in Week 1 by Florida State and another new team is emerging. That team is Colorado according to Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports and that’s a little worrisome just because of Deion Sanders effect.
Colorado is a top contender for Bryce Underwood
According to Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports, the Buffaloes are a “top contender” for the five-star quarterback. Not only that but Wiltfong reports that Underwood will visit Colorado for the USC game.
Underwood sounded pretty excited in his interview with Wiltfong about talking to Prime and his dad scoffed at the notion that his recruitment was down to Michigan football and LSU.
Here’s what Underwood’s dad said about Colorado to Wilftong:
"“We were able to talk to Prime. Everybody pitches they want Bryce to take the keys to their offense. They think he’s a guy to backup or be mentored by Shedeur. Just having that opportunity and Prime is a legend. When I was a kid I wanted to be like Prime. I played corner. Having that guy on the other end talking to my son, it was surreal. We really like Colorado.”"
It sounds like Underwood will visit LSU and Michigan for games this fall too. Underwood even talked about the Wolverines throwing the ball more, saying to 247 Sports: “They have the run game and pass game now.”
That doesn’t sound super enthusiastic to me about the Wolverines offense, especially compared to the show Colorado put on last Saturday.
Recruiting is wild and it feels like the recruitment of Underwood may have taken a turn.
