Miami flipped a four-star EDGE from Michigan football in the 2023 class and is poised to do it once again to the Wolverines in 2024.

During the 2023 recruiting cycle, Michigan football lost one of its top commitments to the Miami Hurricanes and the same is about to happen again in 2024.

Collins Acheampong is the player in question from the 2023 class. The four-star EDGE was ranked 179th overall according to 247 Sports composite rankings and seemed like a perfect fit for Michigan football with its history of developing pass rushers.

Yet, Acheampong went to Miami and now it seems like the Hurricanes are going to flip another blue-chip EDGE in Elias Rudolph.

Is Miami going to flip a Michigan commitment?

Rudolph is 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, and ranked No. 292 overall in the 2024 class by the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s the 21st-ranked EDGE in the 2021 class and landing him was a big victory for Michigan football as he also took visits to Ohio State, Penn State, and Miami.

However, something must have changed. He committed to the Wolverines in early July but by the end of the month, was taking an unofficial visit to the Hurricanes (July 29th).

That was worrying enough. Michigan fans had to hope that the Wolverines could hang onto his commitment, but Miami is a real player in the NIL market and Michigan just won’t play that game, at least before the player gets on campus.

That might not be a factor at all, but Miami has taken the momentum and run with it. Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports is now projecting the Canes to flip Rudolph. Another Miami reporter did the same.

There’s already concern that Kentucky could flip Jerod and Jacob Smith, so losing another blue-chip EDGE is about the last thing Michigan football wants or needs right now.

The 2024 class is now ranked sixth according to the 247 Sports team rankings. And if Miami and Kentucky pull off these flips, it’s sure to drop even farther.
