Michigan Wolverines news: Bryce Underwood makes the BBQ, Aaron Scott to Ohio State, and more
It was an up-and-down day for Michigan football on the recruiting trail and we cover it all in our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup.
We’ll start with the good news for the Michigan Wolverines on the recruiting trail and that’s the fact that five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood did make it to Ann Arbor for the BBQ according to EJ Holland of The Wolverine.
There was some contention about whether he would make it for the BBQ after taking a trip to LSU. But the top-ranked passer in the 2025 class out of Belleville, Michigan, did visit the Wolverines for the 10th time overall.
However, LSU is gaining momentum. The Tigers hosted Underwood for a two-day visit and it’s clear that the SEC program is going to possibly be the top contender Michigan football has to worry about.
We’ll see where things go from here, but landing Underwood is far from a slam dunk.
Michigan Wolverines whiff on Aaron Scott
Michigan football fans held out hope that the Wolverines could land four-star cornerback recruit Aaron Scott from Ohio, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Scott pulled an Ohio State jersey out of a Michigan bag. It was his dad’s birthday and his dad is a big Ohio State fan, which should have been a hint.
It’s a bummer that the Wolverines missed on Bryce West and Scott. Both are top-100 cornerbacks that took official visits. West didn’t seem to consider Michigan football as seriously as Scott did.
However, it doesn’t change the fact that Michigan football is going to have to reset the cornerback board. Jamir Benjamin of West Bloomfield just de-committed from Northwestern.
Benjamin is a top-10 player in the state of Michigan in the 2024 class. He was visiting UCLA this weekend, but maybe the Michigan Wolverines get involved. He does hold a Michigan football offer.
Thoughts on Michigan football BBQ food?
You never know what’s going to take off on social media and on Sunday, Michigan football fans — some of them at least — were outraged by the food spread at the recruiting BBQ.

In-state recruit Elijah Dotson of the 2025 class posted the above picture of his plate and it caused a ruckus on social media.
There were questions about the lack of burgers or more BBQ food. I don’t have all the answers, but for the record, the plate looks pretty solid to me.
Chicken strips are awesome and we don’t know the full spread from one plate anyway. Maybe the hot dog could have been cooked a little better but this was a bit of an overreaction.
Plus, in other good news, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 class (via 247 Sports), David Sanders, also made the trip. The teammate of Jadyn Davis is an elite offensive tackle and this visit was a sign that Michigan football is legitimately in the mix.
In a final bit of news, don’t expect Bennett Warren to commit to the Michigan Wolverines on Monday. The four-star offensive tackle is now trending to Tennessee.
