In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, Kirk Herbstreit says Michigan football can win it all in 2023, we have some recruiting updates and more.

Michigan football fans love to hate Kirk Herbstreit, mostly because he was a former Ohio State Buckeye and tends to be a bit of a homer.

I will say that Herbie has been pretty fair in his analysis about Michigan fotoball over the years, especially in the Jim Harbaugh era.

He still annoys me and probably always will — again just because of the simple fact that he played quarterback at Ohio State. However, the ESPN analyst is among those high on the Michigan Wolverines’ chances of winning a national title in 2023.

Here’s what Herbstreit said to JD Pickell of On3.com last week on his Youtube Channel via Wolverines Wire:

"“You know when I hear ‘over the hump’ — I think they should’ve been in the national championship last year. I mean, I respect TCU, but let’s face it. I think you and I and everybody that watched that game, we were impressed with what we saw from TCU that game and the way they made so many explosive plays. But I think going into it, I think if we thought about (it), Michigan was going to win the game. So to think, ‘What do they have to do to get over the hump?’ I would’ve said that after they lost to Georgia (in 2021) and the fashion in which they did. But against TCU, man, I just feel like just a couple plays here or there. So I don’t think they change a whole lot of anything.”"

Those are interesting words from Herbie but he’s right, Michigan football doesn’t need to change much of anything, it just needs to figure out how to win a damn bowl game.

Michigan football recruiting target sets commitment date

Four-star athlete Boo Carter is a top target of the Michigan Wolverines in the 2024 recruiting class and he’s announced a commitment date of June 17th.

This could be good news for Michigan football since the Wolverines are expected to host Carter, who is likely going to be a defensive back in college, for an official visit this weekend.

It will be the last official visit for Carter before he makes his commitment known, so at least the Michigan Wolverines will get the final pitch before he decides among Tennessee, Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, and Colorado.

Tennessee is the crystal ball favorite and is expected to land Carter, who is from Tennessee according to the latest crystal balls, but we’ll see if the Wolverines can change that this weekend.
