Future Michigan football quarterback Jadyn Davis earned some praise at ‘The QB Retreat’, plus the Wolverines’ future at QB is in a good spot.

It’s been a week of positives for Michigan football when it comes to five-star quarterback commitment Jadyn Davis.

Davis pledged to Michigan football on March 31 and Michigan football fans have been rejoicing ever since. Despite Davis missing an invite to the Elite 11 from a regional camp earlier this spring, he was invited earlier this week and will take part in the Elite 11 in Los Angeles.

Over the weekend, you might have seen some pictures circulating of J.J. McCarthy and Davis together. They were taking part in the “QB Retreat” which is hosted by Steve Clarkson.

While Julian Sayin, the Alabama QB commitment in the 2024 class, kind of stole the show, according to this report from 247 Sports, Davis also earned some praise. Here’s what Greg Biggins wrote about Davis:

"“This was our third year in a row seeing Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School quarterback and Michigan commit Jadyn Davis and he’s filling out well and looks closer to 6-1 now with a real athletic build. We noticed a slight loop when he throws on straight drops and he actually gets the ball out quicker when he’s rolling out and throws more quarter-side arm. He’s a very functional athlete with great movement in the pocket and the ability to make accurate throws on sprints out to his right or throwing off-platform to his left. We’ve always liked his maturity and poise as well and feel he will be capable of playing early in college.”"

Maybe the best part of that scouting report is that Biggins views Davis as a guy that could play early in his Michigan football career which could be really important.

J.J. McCarthy is a junior this year but he will be NFL draft eligible. He’s been getting ranked as a top-10 quarterback going into the 2023 college football season and if Michigan football has the kind of season we expect, McCarthy should start getting some real NFL draft buzz.

That’s because he’s got an elite arm, is a great athlete, and is a playmaker. I’ve always believed he would be a first-round pick and I’m still convinced he’ll be a first-round selection next April.

I also wouldn’t be stunned if McCarthy decided to say for another season. He’s talked openly about staying four years and getting his degree.

Either way, the Wolverines appear to be in a solid spot at the quarterback position going forward, even after McCarthy departs. Davis is the long-term option, but others such as Davis Warren and Alex Orji could also be in the mix, at least in 2024.
