Thus far, the 2024 Michigan football recruiting class has been highlighted by offense, but is that poised to change?

In my last article, I spoke about how the Wolverines seem to be trending again for top running back target Taylor Tatum.

Tatum would add another dimension to an already-loaded offensive haul for Michigan football. The Wolverines have been killing it on that side of the ball.

What’s been somewhat surprising, however, is the lack of movement on the defensive side of the ball. There has been some minor concern growing, but with recent developments, it appears that the Wolverines may be picking up some key defensive commits very shortly.

As we approach June official visits for Michigan football, many players are looking to commit, and the staff will have the opportunity to close on many top targets. With that being said, let’s look at some of the recent movement along the defensive side of the ball.

The Wolverines have a lot to sell at the position and are competing for a handful of elite recruits at the position.

At 6’7, 250lbs, Mayo offers incredible upside. Michigan’s recent EDGE production has caught his attention, and he seems to understand that strength coach Ben Herbert could transform him into a monster.

Michigan football is slated to get Mayo on campus for his final official visit (June 23rd-25th) and will look to close the deal then.

What’s worth noting as we transition into the next prospect is that Mayo attends Good Counsel High School in Maryland, the same school as…
