Michigan Wolverines news: Shemy Schembechler resigns position amid controversy, and more
In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, Shemy Schembechler resigned from his position for Michigan football, plus lacrosse was defeated, and more.
Michigan football announced the hiring of Shemy Schembechler, the son of former head coach Bo Schembechler earlier this week, however, the move didn’t last long as controversial tweets came to light which led to Schembechler’s resignation.
Jim Harbaugh played for Bo Schembechler during his time at Michigan football and Shemy, a long-time NFL scout, was hired to work in the recruiting department.
However, it’s clear that more vetting was needed. I don’t believe Michigan football was aware of the tweets and when the Michigan Wolverines became aware, they acted swiftly. Schembechler ultimately resigned, but I’m sure he would have been terminated if he didn’t.
Here’s a statement from Warde Manuel, the Michigan Wolverines athletic director, and Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Michigan football players named Preseason All-Americans
On the field, the Michigan Wolverines should dominate once again this season, and Michigan football earned a number of Preseason All-American selections from Athlon Sports.
Blake Corum is one of the picks and he’s projected to be a First-Team All-American. Drake Nuget and Zak Zinter are both on the second-team offensive line, while Donovan Edwards is third-team as an all-around player.
In addition to four selections on offense, the Michigan Wolverines had four on defense too as junior Colson was a second-team selection. Will Johnson and Kris Jenkins were picked for the third team and Rod Moore for the fourth team.
